We designed a government-issued contact tracing app meant to enable users to voluntarily track their own locations and trace their interactions on specific days. The app helps users in sharing their historical location data with government and health officials, serving as a means of providing information for recommendations and safety notices.
Our main challenge was to design and prototype a user-friendly app that allowed users to initiate tracking and review their history on specific dates. Each date presented users with a map displaying their location history, alongside a list of specific visited places. Addressing privacy concerns during the design phase, we implemented a feature enabling users to delete their stored location details entirely.
We used a prototype for user testing and as a reference for development. Collaborating closely with the development team, we successfully launched the pilot project.
Central to the app's functionality is its map feature. Given the task of enabling users to easily visualize and share their daily movements, we opted for a map-based approach. The map provides a comprehensive view of addresses, locations, and timestamps of check-ins, delivering an intuitive representation of the user's day.
