We designed a web application tailored for waterway companies to effectively monitor crucial points within their operations. This application empowers them to identify issues, track water flow, troubleshoot problems, optimize processes, and schedule operations seamlessly.
Our main challenge was devising and prototyping a system that enables operators to navigate to their regions on a map and examine areas of significance based on geography. In previous versions, users had to refer to lists of location IDs, but through user interviews, we discovered that maps were the preferred working tool. We also crafted a method for users to access detailed insights into different locations. Moreover, we needed to address alarms as they arose and analyze flow patterns.
We worked with a development team to elaborate on designs informed by user interviews and project manager feedback. The product was successfully launched and is now in a phase of continuous improvement.
Central to this app is the sensor chart. Users can navigate to site details through the map and then delve into the pressures at specific waterway junctions. From this chart, users can correlate alerts and alarms present in the Gantt chart and simultaneously compare them with the pressure graph. This provides waterway operators with additional context for alerts, enabling them to swiftly troubleshoot issues like leakages or blockages.
